The Ballarat Art Gallery is the oldest and largest gallery in regional Australia and displays some major Australian art collections as well as works by British and European artists. From 14 August to 26 September you can view ‘The Dark Mirror’, an exhibition of Ballarat born artist, Jeffrey Bren (1944-2007). The recipient of numerous art prizes including the Georges Art Prize and the Art Gallery of Ballarat’s George Crouch Prize, Jeffrey Bren was considered an impressive young talent early in his career.
On Wednesday nights from 6-8pm and Saturday afternoons from 2-4pm the Ballarat Art Gallery runs Life Drawing Classes. A life drawing class is a great activity on a weekend away in Ballarat. Surprise the budding artist in your life with an art class and booked accommodation. Focussing on proportion, structure and dynamics of the human form, the art classes are ideal for beginners or experienced artists wanting to improve technique and add some life drawings to the folio. Costs are $12 per session and there are limited places to book early to secure a place (phone 5320 5858).
